Self Acceptance Through Kripalu Yoga

A Gentle Re-awakening of the Mind with a

Soft Embrace Of Your Body

A Two Day Workshop for Women Dealing with Body Image Issues and other Disordered Eating Issues

All Shapes and Sizes Welcomed and encouraged!

Facilitated by Veronica Sherwood, CYT

About the Workshop

As women, from our early days of puberty, we may have become aware that the shape, size and changing contours of our bodies could determine our roles in both our families and societies. The seeds for potential self esteem issues, struggles with weight and body image, were sewn. However, through the practice Kripalu Yoga we can overcome the hurdles that often hide feelings associated with anger, regret and perhaps even shame. This interactive two-day workshop will combine gentle Kripalu yoga (suitable for both beginners and the experienced) with supportive, non-judgmental activities in a warm setting over-looking the sea. Creativity, play, music and sharing of stories will also enhance your experience.

The theme and tone of the workshop is built on self acceptance and self care incorporating the following values:

Come Just as You Are

Self Observation Without Judgment

Gently Pulling Back the Layers to Find Your Authentic Self

Breaking the Cycle of Obsession and Compulsion Through Breath

Creating a Safe Place for Emotions and Feelings to Emerge)

About the Workshop Facilitator

With the help and support of the QE II Eating for Life Program, Veronica Sherwood has proudly recovered from a long struggle with disordered eating. She also has a background in women’s issues regarding addiction through her work as a Community Representative for Matrix Drug and Addiction Services Board of Directors. Veronica is a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor from the Atlantic Yoga Teachers Association, while also holding certification in Community Development from the
Nova Scotia Community College and, Adult Education experience from the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Veronica’s approach to combining Kripalu Yoga with supportive, group work is expressed as follows:

“For centuries women have gathered and shared stories. This workshop will provide an opportunity for anyone dealing with the stress and self judgment related to body image and opportunity to begin to break free. Through the use of gentle Kripalu Yoga we will start down the road of accepting ourselves and appreciating our bodies – at any size or age.  In addition, we as women need to take time to create, to laugh, to listen. We are whole: body, mind and spirit. We will celebrate all of these our time together.”

Cost:         $130

Date:         Fall 2010,  8:30-3pm both days

BECOME A REIKI PRACTITIONER

(coming Fall 2010)

Reiki is a non-invasive Japanese healing technique which involves the channelling of Universal Life Force energy.  In this type of treatment the body is able to relieve itself of physical, emotional, and spiritual blocks.  Reiki assists the natural healing process of the body and enhances its ability to rebalance to a healthier state.  Reiki is effective on anything created from life force energy including humans, animals, and plants.

The Reiki Level I attunement enables you to become a practitioner and share the gift of Reiki with your family, friends, pets etc. while also clearing blockages you may have in your own body.  Clearing these blockages allows the Universal Life Force energy (often referred to as ki, chi, or prana) to flow freely which can be very healing in its own right.

Aside from assisting others in their healing process another great thing about being a Reiki Practitioner is that every time you are giving a treatment, you are also receiving a treatment. Certified Reiki Master/Teacher Brad L. Surette would be honoured to pass along the gift of giving and receiving Reiki to you.

Brad Surette, BA, RMT, RYT, Reiki Master Teacher

After completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology Brad spent ten years with the Federal Government of Canada as a public servant before deciding to completely change the direction of his life and pursue his natural abilities and gifts as a healing arts practitioner. Brad successfully completed a 2200 hour massage therapy diploma program from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and completed forty hours of service in the Neurological Outreach Clinic. Brad completed additional workshops in Deep Tissue Techniques, Myofascial Release and graduated as valedictorian of his class.
While his massage therapy studies were in progress, Brad worked extra hard to finish his training in Kripalu Yoga and Usui Reiki.  Brad is a Registered Massage Therapist, Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Reiki Master Teacher associated with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada and the Massage Therapists & Wholistic Practitioners of the Maritimes.

Because of his extensive background, knowledge, and training Brad is able to offer a wide range of services. Some of the most popular and requested treatments are Therapeutic Massage, Relaxation Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Yoga, Cranio Sacral Therapy, and of course Reiki.

Brad's goal is to help people achieve a balanced lifestyle by focusing on the integration of the body, mind, and spirit.
